The Kyushu J7W1 “Shinden” was Japan’s experimental interceptor aircraft,

developed during the final stages of World War II to defend the homeland.

With its canard wings and rear-mounted propeller,

it remains one of the most futuristic and innovative aircraft designs ever conceived.

The aircraft appeared in the film Godzilla Minus One,

rekindling fascination around the world for this “phantom fighter that never flew in combat.”

Only a single prototype was completed,

and today it rests safely in storage at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum near Washington D.C.
